Countdown to the end of this year. 22 days left. This month I am writing posts reflecting on what has transpired and where I think I am headed and any advice or offers I can make for 2017. So today’s installment … Today’s thought– Time is money and Timely keeps count.
Entrepreneurs love to do it themselves. That “do it all” spirit is in their DNA. But at the same time many startup founders, small biz owners, and solo/ entrepreneurs don’t know how to value their time, have a hard time really knowing how much the work they do is worth. This problem means they don’t always know how to prioritize and how to make sure they get paid for their efforts. The founder’s time is NOT free.
For freelancers and creative agency people, like me, billing for our hours can also be difficult. Our work is not easy to track, we find it hard keep track of how many hours we spend on each task.
Of course, I am sure you know, “There’s an app for that!”
Easy to use, nice interface, works on your laptop and other devices. The free version of Timely let’s you keep track of 5 different projects. More than that and you need to upgrade. I honestly love this app. I keep track of both work and personal projects using Timely. You can use the timer when you start or finish a task, or you can go back and just set the hours and minutes that you spent on the task.
You can set your hours as billed or unbilled which helps at invoice time. And if you are not invoicing as a founder– you can keep track of where you are spending the most time and see if your hours and value are matching your priorities for what is best for your company.
Many other apps are out there that track hours but Timely is flexible, easy to use, and I just love the interface.
